It was always about More Than just Fabric
We are thrilled that everyone who uses our unique fabrics know that they are making a one of a kind creation filled with something extra special–a little bit more love.
Carrie Wood–Owner More Love Mama
Can I tell you a little secret? I can’t believe how lucky I am to be sharing all these amazing fabrics with you. You make the most beautiful quilts and clothing, bags and hats, and pillow cases and dog collars, and so much more.
You are so creative and I am excited to be here in my shop sending you the ingredients for your magical projects. I LOVE fabric and I know you do, too. So lets make some fabulous things together!
A little bit about me…
My name is Carrie and I am a wife and a mama to 6 kids brought together through international adoption from China and the Democratic Republic of Congo. I love to laugh, I love to play, and I love to sew. Since no one is going to pay me to laugh or play, I’m hoping I can put my love of fabric to good use.
So how did More Love Mama get its start…
It began as a way to raise funds for the adoption of our middle sons from the DRCongo. I started making handmade blankets out of African Wax Print fabric that I brought home from Congo. I loved the idea that each of my blankets would wrap someone else in love. More Love.
I continued sewing through two more adoptions. Eventually my shop turned into a location for crafters and sewists to find unique fabrics from around the world: South African Shweshwe, African Wax Prints, Guatemalan Handwoven Fabrics, Australian Aboriginal Prints, Indonesian Batiks, and more.
Whenever possible, I try to purchase fair trade…
…hand dyed or hand woven fabrics made by indigenous artisans. At the very least, I make an effort to support the economies in developing countries by purchasing our fabrics from small, individual business owners. But most importantly, I try to create an appreciation for the beauty of textile arts from around the world by sharing with my customers beautiful new prints and color combinations from every corner of the globe.
I now have 6 kids…
…more love than I could have ever imagined, and only 2 or 3 spare minutes a day. But I love to spend that spare time soaking up the beautiful designs of the fabrics I sell and sew, and sharing them all with you! I can’t wait to see what you make next!
**A portion of purchases made at More Love Mama are donated to the humanitarian aid group Reeds of Hope through their “One Thread Project”, which trains young women in DRCongo to sew and then start their own businesses.
